How to create Multiple Profiles in Affinidi Vault

The multi-profile feature of Affinidi Vault empowers you to create different representations of yourselves based on various contexts.

For example, you can have a separate identity for an E-Commerce site and Social platforms, allowing you to share different sets of data for each platform. With multiple profiles, you can select which profile to share depending on who requests the data.

To create different profiles on Affinidi Vault:

  1. Unlock your Affinidi Vault with your passphrase.

  2. Under the menu side bar, Click on My Profiles page. This page lists all the available profiles, including the Default profile which is automatically created for you when your Affinidi Vault was created.

  3. Click on Add profile button and provide the details, as your reference for what the profile represents.

It is recommended to utilise the following to differentiate your Profile Types.

  • Picture URL: You may provide a URL of the image you would like to use as this profile picture

  • Profile Name: Input the name that you want your profile to be.

  • Profile Description: You can describe this profile that best suits the profile name.

  1. Choose a Data Storage Option

When setting up your profile, you will encounter two radio button options:

  • Keep data on your device: Store your data on this device for offline access

  • Save data to the cloud: Opting for cloud storage allows you to store and access your files online. This option also unlocked additional features such as document uploads and data extraction.

You can choose one of the options to save your data either on Edge or in Cloud storage.

Multiple profiles allows you to choose between Edge or Cloud storage for each profile. In contrast to the edge profile or cloud profile, which limit you to a single storage location, multiple profiles offers greater flexibility by allowing different storage options for each profile.

  1. To create more profiles, repeat steps 2 to 4. Each profile can have its unique set of information and attributes.

What are the advantages of having multiple profiles?

There are several advantages to having multiple profiles in your Affinidi Vault.

  1. Customisation: Each profile can be tailored to meet different needs or preferences. For example, you might have a profile for job applications that highlights your work experience and another for personal use focused on hobbies like shopping or gaming.

  2. Privacy Control: By using multiple profiles, you can control who has access to specific information. This is particularly useful if you want to share certain data with different groups or individuals.
    For example, when shopping on an e-commerce site, you will be able to share your ‘online shopping’ email, from your ‘Shopping Profile’ (if you have set it up), to the e-commerce site without sharing your Professional email.

  3. Organisation of Data: Different profiles can help you organise and separate personal, professional, and other types of data, making it easier to manage your information.

How many Profiles can you create?

Cloud profile has a limit of 10 profiles while edge profiles allows you to create as many profiles as you want!

Can you delete any of your Profiles?

Yes, other than the ‘Default’ Profile that was set up when your Affinidi Vault was created, you can delete other profiles anytime.

Based on your how you want to organise your digital identities, you may create different types of Profiles that suits you. For example:

  • Professional or Work related Profile
  • Gaming Profile
  • Shopping Profile
  • Travel Profile
  • Sports Profile
  • Music Profile
  • Movie Profile
  • Gourmet Profile and the list goes on as per your interest!

What are some of the best practices for maintaining multiple profiles?

  • Clearly Define Purpose: Assign specific purpose for each profile (e.g., Professional, Shopping, Gaming) to avoid confusion and streamline management.

  • Use Descriptive Names and Profile Picture: Choose clear and descriptive names for each profile with Profile Picture to easily identify them at a glance.

  • Regular Updates: Periodically review and update your information in each profile to keep it accurate and relevant.
