Passphrase Reset
Your passphrase unlocks Affinidi Vault and gives access to your data. If you forget it, the passphrase reset feature provides a secure recovery method.
This method uses Shamir’s Secret Sharing, a cryptographic algorithm that splits private information into multiple parts (“shares”). It ensures sensitive data like biometrics, cryptographic keys, and passphrases remain secure.
Passphrase reset generates three PDF files (shares) from your current passphrase. Each file contains secret phrases. A single file cannot reveal the secret. To recover access, you need 2 of the 3 files combined to reconstruct the passphrase.
How Passphrase Reset Works
Affinidi Vault uses Shamir’s Secret Sharing to enable secure passphrase recovery.
Download the PDF Files
To reset your passphrase later:
Go to Settings and download the PDF files.
Enter your current passphrase. After confirmation, Affinidi Vault generates 3 PDF files based on your passphrase.
Distribute these files securely to trusted people, devices, or locations. You will need them if you forget your passphrase.

Best Practices for Keeping Files Safe
Follow these tips to store recovery files securely:
Give one copy to someone you trust, such as a family members or friends.
Store one copy on trusted device, like a laptop or mobile.
Keep one copy in a secure cloud service, such as Google Drive.
Print one of the copies and keep it safe in a secure physical location with restricted access, such as a deposit box.
Never keep all copies in one place to reduce risk.
Important Note
If you update your passphrase after downloading the files, download new files.Recover Affinidi Vault Access
If you forget your passphrase:
- Click Forgot Passphrase? on the Affinidi Vault login page.

Retrieve two of the three PDF files you stored earlier.
Upload them on the Reset Passphrase page. Affinidi Vault reconstructs your passphrase and unlocks your Vault.
After successful validation, set a new passphrase for added security.
