# Manage your sign-in methods

> Link Apple, Google, GitHub, or Microsoft to your Affinidi Portal account, add a passkey, and remove unused methods.

Link more ways to sign in to your Affinidi Portal account, such as Google or a passkey, and remove unused ones.

The Authentication methods page has two sections: Social login providers (Apple, Google, GitHub, and Microsoft) and Passkeys. Every linked method signs you in to the same account, with the same projects and the same User Principal ID. If you created your account with Affinidi Login, you can keep using it and link other methods alongside it. With a second method linked, you can still reach your projects if one provider account becomes unavailable, and a passkey lets you sign in without a password.

Link a provider before you use it to sign in. Affinidi Portal identifies your account by the sign-in method, not by your email address, so signing in with a provider you haven’t linked creates a new, separate account.

Use this guide when:

- You want to sign in with Apple, Google, GitHub, or Microsoft as well as your current method.

- You want to sign in with a passkey.

- You want to stop using a provider or remove a passkey.

## Prerequisites

- An Affinidi Portal account you can sign in to. See [Sign in to Affinidi Portal](/dev-tools/affinidi-portal/sign-in-to-portal.md).

- For a passkey: a device or password manager that supports passkeys.

## Open the Authentication methods page

Open the Account menu at the top right of Affinidi Portal, then select Account Info > Authentication methods.

Each change opens a pop-up window where you confirm it, and the message “Continue in the pop-up window. This page updates when you are done.” appears on the page. If your browser blocks pop-ups, the change opens in the same tab and returns you to this page.

Changing how you sign in needs a recent sign-in. If Affinidi Portal shows Sign in again to continue, select Sign in again. You come back to this page to finish.

## Link a social login provider

Select Link

In the Social login providers table, select Link next to the provider.

Sign in to the provider

Sign in to that provider’s account in the pop-up window.

The provider’s button changes to Unlink. You can now sign in to Affinidi Portal with that provider.

## Unlink a social login provider

Select Unlink

In the Social login providers table, select Unlink next to the provider.

Confirm the change

Confirm the change in the pop-up window.

The provider you signed in with this session stays linked while you use it. Its Unlink button is disabled with the message “You can’t unlink this account because you’re currently signed in with it. Please use another sign-in method before unlinking this account.” To unlink it, sign out, sign in with another method, then select Unlink.

Before you unlink a provider, make sure you have another way to sign in, such as another linked provider or a passkey.

## Add a passkey

Select Add passkey

In the Passkeys section, select Add passkey.

Create the passkey

Follow the prompts in the pop-up window and on your device to create the passkey.

The passkey appears in the Passkeys table with its name and creation date. On the sign-in page, select Log in with passkey to use it.

## Remove a passkey

Select the remove icon

In the Passkeys table, select the remove icon next to the passkey.

Confirm the change

Confirm the change in the pop-up window.

### Test 1: a linked provider shows Unlink

Open Authentication methods. Each provider you linked shows Unlink.

### Test 2: the new method signs you in

Select Logout in the Account menu, then sign in with the provider or passkey you added. Affinidi Portal opens with the same projects as before.

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
| Unlink is disabled for a provider. | You’re signed in with that provider in this session. | Sign out, sign in with another method, then unlink it. |
| “Authentication method management could not be started.” | Affinidi Portal couldn’t open the change. | Reload the page and try again. |
| “Linked providers could not be loaded.” or “Passkeys could not be loaded.” | The list failed to load. | Select Retry. |
| “Passkey verification failed” when you sign in with a passkey. | The passkey isn’t registered for this account, or the device couldn’t verify it. | Sign in with another method and add the passkey again. |
